luXbeacon-based Batteryless IPS at EMSD HQ

Along with the emergence of Interent of Things technologies and applications, demands for Indoor Position System (IPS) haver risen signifcantly due to its ability to enable plethora of user location/context aware services. Battery-powered BLE beacons have long been a popular choice for IPS infrastructures due to the widespread use of Bluetooth compatible devices. However, frequent battery replacements proved to be resouce exahsutive and therefore inefficient. To remedy such shortcomings, we have deployed around 100 luXbeacons at EMSD headquarters to establish a management free IPS infrastructure.

Note: We discover that Native App has a relatively better user experience due to the application layer of WeChat App library only allows a reporting of scanned beacon signal every 2s, which is 1s in native application.

luXbeacon-based Batteryless Asset Tracking System at EMSD HQ

Besides the application like IPS, Asset Tracking System is another popular application because it helps saving users time and resources to keep track with all assets in indoor locations. Battery-powered BLE beacons are implemented in the infrastructure due to the low-cost and its adaptability to installation locations. However, the remote battery information management of beacons are important to allow users to keep track on all the assets. To remedy such shortcomings, we have deployed multiple BLE detectors to monitor around 100 assets which attached with luXbeacons at EMSD headquarters to establish a remote monitoring system in both managing the beacons battery information and the locations of assets.

luXbeacon-based Batteryless Media Notification Push System at EMSD HQ

Besides from the application for monitoring users and asset status, Media Notification Pusg System is another important application to increase the interaction between mobile users and the IoT infrastructure by providing media information notification to users when they approach a media zone. Battery-powered BLE beacons are implemented in the infrastructure due to the promising identify sharing function from beacon advertisement protocol and the controllable range of advertisement. Similar to the previous two applications, battery consumption is the most challenging part to handle to maintain a stable media notification system. To remedy such shortcomings, we have deployed around 100 luXbeacons at EMSD headquarters to establish a Media Notification Push System to provide interaction and sufficient information to the mobile users.
